Gila River and Gila National Forest

Updated: Apr 22

In addition to the Gila Cave Dwellings, I explored the Gila River and Gila National Forest. I was living large capping off my day off eating ice cream in a hot spring!

The forest is filled with tall pines and various wildflowers, creating a rich environment that supports a range of wildlife. The trails are well-marked, making navigation straightforward. The air is fresh and carries the distinct scent of pine and damp earth. I can hear various bird calls and the sounds of nature that indicate the presence of wildlife in the area.

Walking along the Gila River, I am struck by the steady flow of water that shapes the landscape. The riverbank features smooth stones and patches of greenery, providing a clear contrast to the surrounding forest. I take a moment to dip my fingers into the cool water, which offers a refreshing break from the warm sun.
